Sound for Images

This page addresses the most common questions raised by artists, galleries, curators, and cultural institutions approaching Sound for Images for the first time.

The objective is clarity. Not simplification.

Sound For Images

What is Sound for Images?

Sound for Images is a curatorial project dedicated to the creation and long-term preservation of original musical works associated with visual art.

Each image is paired with an authored musical composition conceived as a permanent extension of the artwork itself.

Who is Sound for Images addressed to?

Sound for Images is addressed to visual artists, galleries, curators, publishers, and cultural institutions.

The project is not conceived for mass distribution or automated services. Each collaboration is evaluated individually.

Who composes the music?

All musical works are composed by Luca Bonaffini, composer and poet.

Music is treated as authored content. It is neither decorative nor interchangeable. Each composition is created specifically for the corresponding artwork.

Is the music generated by artificial intelligence?

No.

Artificial intelligence and prompt-based tools may form part of the broader cultural context of a project, but the music itself is composed by a human author.

Sound for Images is based on authorship, not automation.

How is the music accessed?

Music is accessed through dedicated QR codes and stable URLs connected to proprietary servers managed by Zanettistudios s.r.l.

This structure guarantees continuity, controlled access, and independence from third-party platforms.

Why not use streaming platforms or external hosting services?

Commercial platforms are designed for temporary distribution and do not guarantee long-term continuity.

Sound for Images deliberately avoids third-party platforms to maintain control, ensure permanence, and protect authorship.

This is a cultural and ethical choice, not a technical limitation.

Sound For Images

What happens if a collaboration ends?

Visual artworks remain the property of the artist or gallery. Musical works remain hosted on Sound for Images’ servers according to the agreed licensing terms.

Continuity of access is preserved whenever possible, in line with the project’s long-term commitment.

Rooted in an Italian institutional context active since 2002, Sound for Images assumes responsibility beyond temporary platforms.
