How Sound for Images Works

Sound for Images combines artistic authorship with long-term cultural responsibility. The method is designed to be clear, controlled, and durable over time.

What follows is not a technical workflow, but a curatorial process developed to ensure coherence, permanence, and respect for authorship.

1. Listening to the Image

Every project begins with the visual artwork. Composer and poet Luca Bonaffini approaches each image as a structured emotional space, listening to its internal rhythm, tension, and narrative potential.

The composition is not illustrative. It is interpretative.

2. Original Musical Composition

Each artwork receives an original, unreleased musical composition. The music is composed specifically for the image and is never reused or generated automatically.

Sound is conceived as an extension of the artwork’s identity. In this sense, music becomes part of the artwork’s authorship, not an external addition.

3. Permanent Access via QR Code

Each composition is made accessible through a dedicated QR code connected to a stable URL.

This system allows immediate access to sound without relying on third-party platforms or temporary digital services. Access is designed to remain consistent over time.

4. Proprietary Server Infrastructure

All musical works are hosted on proprietary servers owned and managed by Zanettistudios s.r.l., an Italian company active since 2002.

This infrastructure is not outsourced. It guarantees continuity, controlled access, and independence from commercial streaming platforms.

The separation between the curatorial site and the sound archive ensures clarity of roles and long-term responsibility.

5. Long-Term Commitment

Sound for Images is not conceived as a short-term digital solution. It is a long-term cultural commitment.

The project assumes direct responsibility for the maintenance, accessibility, and preservation of musical content over time.

The artwork does not disappear when technologies change. It remains accessible.

6. From Book to Exhibition

The method applies to books, exhibitions, installations, and private collections.

The foundational project L’ARTE PROMPTICA demonstrates how this method extends visual artworks beyond the printed page through permanent access to sound.

Across different contexts, Sound for Images maintains artistic coherence, technical stability, and curatorial integrity.
